The reality of this game is one of the many amazing features. Battlefield 3 was created by Dice and has been running on the new engine Frostbite 2. Some of the new features are the weapons such as the MK11 MOD O or the M40A5 sniper rifle. The storyline was amazing and Dice did a good job on graphics and online multiplayer gameplay. There are no lags whatsoever, which is a plus. The storyline takes place in many places like Germany, California, England, and New York.

On the second mission (Operation Swordbreaker) the player acts as Sgt. Henry Blackburn. In his squad, his role is a DM (Designated Marksman) and the weapons you carry are a M4A1 and the MK11 MOD O. Blackburn was traveling in a LAV-25 and was originally looking for IEDs but he get called to a military bazaar and follows his squad leader to Commander Chris Cole.
He assigns you a mission to go find the Viper Squad. As Blackburn attempts to find the Viper Squad, he approaches a parking lot where he is attacked. Unfortunately, his teammate is shot and he drags him to cover. After the incident, the player has to eliminate PLR (People’s Liberation and Resistance) carrying RPG’s.
Once the enemies have been eliminated, the player moves on. Blackburn goes upstairs and there is a trembles but his squad ignores it. He reaches the 4th floor assaulted by a sniper and to protect himself, sprints across the hall. When you have reached the other side of the hall to safety, he is attacked by two other PLR.

Once the player reaches the top of the building, he takes cover to avoid getting shot at. He goes prone and crawls to a corner with his squad. One of the squad members hands him the AT and his squad members suppress the sniper. He exterminates the sniper with the AT. He then gives some cover fire on another squad.

Blackburn runs back downstairs and returns to the bazaar and is attacked by enemy PLR again. He approaches the Viper Squad and his teammate finds a red-wire under the truck and he defuses it. As he disassembles a plug, he is attacked by a PLR soldier and kills him. Then Blackburn unplugs the IED right when it was about to explode.

The player regroups with his squad and his teammate tells him to man the LMG (or the M249 SAW). The player slaughters some of the PLR but an AH-6 finishes the job. Afterwards, the player mans a .50 cal machine gun and shoots the PLR trying to flank you.

After that an earthquake happens and the player is thrown out of a truck and a building collapses, crushing the AH-6. The player blacks out from the impact, ending the level.

By John Nguyen
Staff Writer

When the city bells ring, and ancient evils swoop over the fellow citizens of Whiterun; the only obstacle that stands in the way of its demise is an equally powerful warrior who commands the power known as the Thu’um. From the plagued lands of Morrowind, to the gates of Oblivion, and now the homeland of the Nords, comes the newest addition to the The Elder Scrolls franchise known as Skyrim.

Being Gamespot’s, Game Informer’s, and Game Critics’s Best of E3 winner of the year, as well as VGA’s Game Of The Year, TES (The Elder Scrolls): Skyrim lives up to every fan of its predecessors expectations. This isn’t to say that it doesn’t appeal to newcomers to the series as well. Skyrim provides the player with an entirely entertaining open-world experience, utterly allowing the player access to do anything he/she pleases within the boundaries that lie in the land’s own set of imagination forged from Bethesda Softworks.

Skyrim contains a unique story-plot, newly polished graphics, memorable music, new guilds, and even infinite quests which is all worth any gamer’s $60.00. Simply put, the vast, immense content stowed away within Skyrim makes completing the game range from a few hours to a hundred and over!

The story-plot of Skyrim is well-rounded, in terms of knowledge of the land of Tamriel (continent Skyrim is located on), and remains as either a welcome-back gift to fans of the series, or a totally new, satisfying experience for newcomers. To accompany this experience, the game provides a system of infinite quests, which leaves the player to indefinitely spending oodles of time exploring lands unknown accompanied with various companions, monsters, and political ordeals.

The newest game-play component in TES is the use of the Thu’um or shouting, in which the player, whom unlocks the skill through a series of main quests, can manipulate the fabric of nature through his/her voice. Thu’um skills include but are not limited to: breathing fire, disarming assailants, and even manipulating the use of air to attack faster. Conversations with NPCs (non-playable characters) have also changed, as the conversation wheel isn’t present, and leveling up requires excessive use of skills (blocking, destruction, two-handed wielding, etc.) in order to progress.

As the newest enemy to TES, as well as an ancient evil in the story, the dragon certainly lives up to its reputation as a force to be reckoned with, and with good reason. Alongside the players travels, the dragon may devastate everything in its wake, including towns, innocents, and even jarls (kings) which leaves the player to question in either playing hero or antagonist. The types of dragons vary from ice, fire, and even blood, making them a core aspect of the game; deliberately pitting these dragons against the player at random times when he/she least expects it becomes a frightful, yet memorable experience altogether.

Besides dragons, players may find themselves among the many vast locations of Skyrim which is split into 9 holds, each with their own corresponding jarls. All of these locations are beautifully displayed in terms of graphics, and there are many different terrain types as well as weather types to envelop the player in an absorbing atmosphere.

Music in the lands of Skyrim takes on a Viking theme, which is surprisingly gratifying, and appropriate to what Skyrim generates in atmosphere. Traveling along the many beautiful landscapes within Skyrim, accompanied with Viking themed music, blend well together, incorporating many aspects from previous games of the series.

Overall, the only gripe with Skyrim is its many glitches, but generally most sandboxes contain glitches. I remember at one point in the game I was trying to climb a mountain to avoid a sabre-tooth tiger, instead I trapped the tiger LITERALLY inside the mountain. So aside from all the seriousness of Skyrim, people with a good sense of humor can usually find hilarity in the occasional catch of such glitches (floating grannies, and being knocked hundreds of feet into the air by a troll).

With a good note, Skyrim is worthy of $60.00, and is available on most systems (PC, Xbox 360, and PS3) with an extremely satisfying story, graphics, and game-play alongside other accolades.

People who buy this game find streets paved with gold as they experience the many pleasures of the latest edition of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

This game is rated M for mature.

Moving up to fourth grade can sometimes be a big step for students moving from primary to elementary. The fourth graders have to learn schedule changing and that’s where the teachers come in place.

Mrs. Marcia Aylett is a fourth grade Math and Science teacher. She believes that hands on activities and group partnering helps the students to understand concepts better. The teacher’s main goal is to prepare the students for the benchmark exam in April as well as teaching the required frameworks.

Aylett makes games and competitions to movitate the students.

She obtains open responses from various sources to practice with the students.

A sticker is rewarded to the student who gets a response correct.

This helps boost their spirits to want to do the response practices because their getting rewarded at the end of the year. The students with the most stickers are taken out to eat.

While teaching Science, her goal is to make it fun. One experiment, which was the students’ favorite, was learning about the human body digestive system.

To encourage the kids to participate, she went and got a lunch tray from the schools cafeteria.

She mashed and crumbled the food that was left over from lunch and added a carton of milk.

She let the mashed food sit in the milk for a few minutes to show the kids how the digestive system broke down the food. This also help the kids see what their food they just consumed looked like.

At the beginning and end of every school year, the teachers of Nashville Elementary try to evaluate themselves to see their shortcomings and try to improve for the next year ahead.

For the past two years, has met the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and has not been on school improvement list, an accomplishment of which both the administration and the teachers are proud.

The school implemented a number of programs to help students meet their proficiency goals.

One implementation involved creating an AR Reading Program, in which students check out books from the school library and after reading, take tests on them for AR Points. This is to help encourage students to read often.

With AR points, they can go to various places around Nashville. If a student reaches 100 AR points, they can go to Texarkana Fun Park at the end of the school year. With 250 points, they can bring a friend with them to eat at Simple Simons. In addition, Nashville Elementary also has an incentive system.

The students that scored proficient or advanced on Math and Literacy, as a reward, they received a free day out of school on February 15th. Every nine weeks, the teachers give out a target test for the purpose of evaluating is a student is on task and that they are learning.

They have a “team teaching” program, which teachers meet once a week and discuss how the students are performing and methods of teaching and see what methods worked and what didn’t work.

They also have an after-school tutoring program geared towards raising benchmark scores.

Emphasis is placed on benchmark scores because any state testing determines whether schools will be placed on school improvement list, which could give them an undesirable reputation.

The superintendent supports the school in several ways such as the funding of technology for the students and the after school tutoring program and grants.

Assistant Principal Rick Rebsamen said that teachers work about 11 to 15 hours a week outside of school and parents were supportive in attending events such as handbook meetings, science shows, concerts, and Open House events usually has large number of parents attending.

Beginning in August, students in grades K-2 began the statewide implementation of the English/Language Arts and Mathematics Common Core curriculum standards.

In order to implement these new standards, the teachers and literacy coach have worked together to develop thematic curriculum units.

These units are being developed with the intention of providing our students with a wide base of background knowledge in diverse events, people, places, and ideas by exposing them to a rich array of “read-aloud” stories, nonfiction, and poems. The reading of these texts are being combined with phonics, guided reading instruction, and writing, as well as listening and speaking activities.

Our music and art teachers are also developing curriculum to go along with each unit to incorporate the fine arts into each unit’s theme.

These units of study are being utilized as a pathway to teach the new standards within a context of content-rich curriculum.

The Nashville Primary School is committed to providing an environment of educational excellence where all belong, all learn and all succeed.

Art is amazing!

Kindergarten through third grade students enjoy exploring and learning through the art program at the Primary School. Students are exposed to a great variety of art mediums and allowed to use them to create their art.

Some of their favorites are tempera paint, clay, pastels, and paper mache’.

They are introduced to many famous artists from long ago to present day.

One tradition at the Primary School is studying the famous Blue Dog paintings by George Rodrigue from New Orleans during their first grade year.

Each student then creates his or her own Blue Dog. The students never cease to amaze everyone with their paintings.

Children’s authors and illustrators are also used as a source for art projects at the Primary School.

This encourages students’ interest in literature as well as art. One favorite of the kindergarteners is Eric Carle.

Students are shown pictures of Eric Carle’s studio and technique, then allowed to make “pretty paper” like Carle’s for their own “Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

Performance! Performance!

It’s never too early to start honing performing arts skills. Mrs. Stacia Petty’s music classes not only learn music, and how to compose music in the primary grades, but they also learn the art of performing.

Kindergarten students perform several songs for their parents at Halloween and at Easter each year, complete with costumes.

First grade students perform Christmas music and Easter music for the local nursing homes, banks, Rotary Club, and school board meetings as well as at the Christmas and Candlelight in Old Washington event.

Beginning in second grade every student performs in a musical complete with costumes and speaking parts, and the tradition continues in third grade. These musicals are big productions on stage at Sixth Street Auditorium for a large audience of peers, parents, and community.

By the time students go to the elementary school, they are comfortable and confident about their performing arts abilities.

Students receive the foundation of a great education at Nashville Primary as well as learning the importance of character and teamwork.

They learn the responsibility of taking pride in their work as well as in their school and community.

Seventy-one staff members work diligently to teach 650 students the life skills they will need to excel in a constantly changing world.

Special emphasis is placed on literacy and math at the primary level, but students also have the opportunity to succeed in art, music, physical education, and computer classes.

Students participate in competitions such as county spelling bees, art contests, and Battle of the Books, but also have the opportunity to hone their performing arts by participating in musicals each year.

NPS has a huge support network with over 90% attendance at parent teacher conferences each year. Our parents and community support our school in every way possible.

It takes a village to educate the whole child, and Nashville Primary is a perfect example of collaborative learning experiences.
